Let it Flow

I’m currently reading the Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho. It’s an inspiring story of a shepherd seeking a dream of his, a personal legend. The journey brings challenges, doubts, and valuable lessons.

Sometimes, there’s just no way to hold back the river.
— Paulo Coelho

This one stuck with me. The reason is simple: I’m always quite eager to keep control of every situation in my life. The more I know (or think I know) about the future, the better.

But to my own disappointment, I can’t really stop the flow of the river. Which means I should accept the things I cannot control. Accept reality.

There is then, a fine line between letting go of things, as the river flows; and holding on to them, while building a boat to reach the other margin.

For me, this means working towards the goals I set for myself while accepting the external (and sometimes internal) factors I cannot control.

Acceptance, they say. Striving for it, I say.
